Morning Prayer (before the answer)

Not patience but relief he needs
On knees immersed in cracking dark
In moments prior to eyes he pleads
A temporary stay of heart

She cannot, must not, know that strife
Holds him in slack but gaited cords
Joy his promise, not a tear
Her cheek will right of way afford

The dust invisible now dances seen
Feet as asleep as hope to doom
Arise knowing the mounting beam
Offers no respite from his cocoon

So pausing to catch a last breath deep
He trods resigned her smile to meet
