I Never Knew We Were Poor

A broken window let in
the cold air from above.
A worn out heater
and a whole lot of love.

Momma put another blanket on
me and kissed me good-night.
Then she let our dog, Shag,
in and everthing was all right.

The Lord blessed us and Momma
never let me know we were poor.
Momma was the only one who had
for what-ever was wrong, the cure.

By the time I was a teenager, I gave
my life to the Lord in church.
Momma was thankful that I accepted
Jesus, never again did I need to search.

I'm a grown man now and I have all
the comforts of a new home each day.
No piled up blankets on cold nights,
Momma is with God I'm blessed to say.
